Ultrasonic Sensors

Ultrasonic sensors were used for close-range detection (up to 8 meters) in Tesla vehicles from HW1 to HW3. They provided:

- Parking assistance - Obstacle detection at low speeds - Summon feature support - Blind spot monitoring

Like radar, ultrasonic sensors were removed in HW4. Tesla replaced them with: - Enhanced camera processing for close-range detection - Neural networks trained on parking scenarios - Improved vision algorithms for low-speed maneuvers

The removal of ultrasonic sensors is part of Tesla's strategy to simplify the sensor suite and rely more heavily on camera vision and AI processing.
