Radar

Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) was used in Tesla vehicles from HW1 to HW3. It provided:

- Long-range object detection (up to 160 meters) - Speed measurement of other vehicles - Works in various weather conditions - Complements camera vision

However, Tesla removed radar from HW4, moving to a vision-only approach. The decision was based on: - Cameras can provide more detailed information - Neural networks can interpret visual data more accurately - Reduces sensor complexity and cost - Vision can handle most scenarios radar was used for

Some argue this was a cost-cutting measure, while Tesla maintains that vision-only is superior when combined with advanced neural networks.
