GPS/IMU
GPS (Global Positioning System) and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) provide:
- GPS:
- Vehicle location on the map
- Navigation routing
- Speed and heading information
- Integration with HD maps (when available)
- IMU:
- Acceleration and rotation measurements
- Vehicle dynamics sensing
- Helps with sensor fusion
- Provides data when GPS signal is lost
These sensors work together with cameras to provide: - Accurate positioning for navigation - Context for understanding the driving environment - Integration with mapping data - Redundancy for safety-critical systems
Unlike radar and ultrasonic sensors, GPS/IMU remain in all hardware generations as they provide essential navigation and positioning capabilities.
