Camera System

Tesla's camera system consists of 8 cameras positioned around the vehicle to provide 360-degree coverage:

  • Front Cameras:
  • Main forward-facing camera (wide field of view)
  • Narrow forward-facing camera (long range)
  • Forward-facing side cameras (left and right)
  • Side Cameras:
  • B-pillar cameras (left and right)
  • Rear-facing side cameras (left and right)
  • Rear Camera:
  • Rear-facing camera

Each camera captures images at 1280x960 resolution (HW1-HW3) or 1920x1080 (HW4). The cameras work together to create a comprehensive view of the vehicle's surroundings, which is then processed by neural networks to understand the environment.

The camera system is the primary sensor for Tesla's vision-only approach, replacing the need for expensive LiDAR systems.
